Ludhiana: parents of murdered young people demonstrate in front of an alcohol seller

The grieving family demanded the immediate arrest of the other accused and called for the permanent closure of the liquor store, alleging that its 24-hour operation triggered incidents of violence.

Two days after Kamaljeet Singh, 19, of Mohalla Adarsh ​​Nagar, was murdered by one of his friends and his assistant following an altercation over a beer bottle, his family staged a protest outside a liquor vendor near Ludhiana railway station, the site of the deadly attack, on Tuesday.

The grieving family demanded the immediate arrest of the other accused and called for the permanent closure of the liquor store, alleging that its 24-hour operation triggered incidents of violence. During the demonstration, agitated relatives forced the alcohol seller’s staff to close the store.

Inspector Gaganpreet Singh, SHO of Division Number 1 police station, visited the spot to address the concerns of the family. He informed the protesters that the police had already arrested three of them – Happy, Shiva and Ankit – within hours of the incident. He assured the family that the rest of the accused, Sandeep and Sunil, would also be apprehended soon.

Following assurances from the police, the family ended their protest. Inspector Gaganpreet Singh pacified the protesters and promised to speed up the investigation and bring all the accused to justice.

Kamaljeet Singh was beaten to death by a group of youths on Sunday evening after an argument over the purchase of a bottle of beer.
