What diversity looks like in the Trump cabinet

WASHINGTON (AP) — President-elect Donald Trump incoming administration is expected to be less diverse than President Joe Biden’s administration, but several people of color and women appear likely to hold top positions.

While Trump campaigned vigorously against diversity and inclusion efforts In business and government, his Cabinet and other high-level personnel choices include barrier-breaking appointments. The Cabinet, if confirmed, is expected to be made up of a third of women and include historic firsts.

Trump’s Florida Senator Marco Rubio take as head of the State Department, would be the first Latin American secretary of state. Scott Bessent, American hedge fund manager and Trump chairman. take to head the Treasury Department, would be the first openly gay man to hold the position.

Susie Wiles, Trump’s choice White House chief of staff, will also be the first woman to hold this position.

Scott Turner, a former NFL player who led the White House Opportunity and Revitalization Council During Trump’s first term, he would serve as Secretary of Housing and Urban Development. Turner, who is Black, will be the fourth confirmed HUD secretary of color since 2014. Neurosurgeon Ben Carson, who is also Black, served in the role under Trump.

Trump’s first administration also included some historic firsts, including that of veteran spy Gina Haspel. portion as the first female director of the CIA, but overall it remains late behind its predecessors in terms of diversity.

The new administration should include some people of color in other high-level roles.
