San Francisco Giants not among teams offering superstar free agent contract

THE San Francisco Giants and their potential quest for the biggest prize of free will was always going to be complicated and potentially unrealistic. Giants fans got a dose of reality this week.

Even though entering the offseason, San Francisco was considered by some to be a legitimate suitor to land superstar Juan Soto, those chances seem to be dwindling by the day.

According to a new report from MLB Network’s Jon Morosi this week, Soto has five actual contract offers on the table, and none of them are from the Giants.

Morosi’s message contained no surprise suitors and included the Boston Red Sox, Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Yankees, New York MetsAnd Toronto Blue Jays.

While San Francisco was previously expected to be heavily involved after missing out on players like Aaron Judge and Shohei Ohtani over the past two years – ironically, players who had both just played in the World Series then that the Giants were sitting at home in October for the seventh time. the last eight years – this does not appear to be the case currently.

The Giants could still make an offer, as Soto has made it clear he is looking to hear all possible offers before making a decision.

A decision by Soto does not seem imminent, so it is not excluded that San Francisco could really have a say before making its choice. But fans probably shouldn’t hold their breath at this point.

It’s unclear if the Giants actually met with Soto. It has been reported earlier this month that San Francisco would be on the list of teams that would meet with him in person, but no meeting had taken place by the time he met the Dodgers last week.

As things continue to unfold, the Giants may end up focusing elsewhere when it comes to trying to make a splash this offseason. Willy Adamès is still in play, as is a possible re-signing of his ace Blake Snell. But it doesn’t appear the team is taking any serious steps to sign baseball’s best hitter.

San Francisco fans may have to let go of the possibility of the superstar crushing home runs at McCovey Cove next season.
