New Delhi:

Rajya Sabha Speaker and Deputy Speaker Jagdeep Dhankhar on Thursday said all members of Parliament should be given the highest esteem to abide by the rules of the House as such deviation amounts to sacrilege to the ‘temple of democracy”.

“Whether we start practicing in our own way or not, not only is it undemocratic, but it will pose a great challenge to the very existence of this sacred theater. I am convinced that any deviation from the rules virtually sacrileges this temple” ,” Mr. Dhankhar said during the Rajya Sabha session today.

Responding to a question from Congress MP Jairam Ramesh on ‘how to persuade the President’, he said that historically, the President has been convinced by following the rules.

“There is a good question that I would say comes from my dear friend Jairam Ramesh. He says: how do we persuade the president? That is a good question. Therefore, I seek to answer it. Historically, we persuade the president only by exhibiting the highest level of compliance with the rules. And as I indicated yesterday, the President’s decision should be met with deference, not defiance,” Mr. Dhankhar said.

He said the rules of the House are comprehensive enough to allow every member to participate in the proceedings of the House.

“I am sure that the rules are so comprehensive that they allow every Member of Parliament to contribute. Let me say for a moment that during the last session we had the opportunity to set a specific time, and we failed to utilize this time due to lack of speakers And therefore, there cannot be any grievance to express your concerns, but in accordance with the rules,” he added.

On Wednesday, he also called on House members to raise the bar on productivity and foster an environment of discussion, dialogue and respect for the rules, highlighting the historic significance of the day marking the first day of the fourth quarter of century since the law was passed. Indian Constitution.

“As the historic day of the very first day of the fourth quarter of the century of adoption of the Indian Constitution, let us raise the bar of productivity, generate an atmosphere which we exemplify through discussion, dialogue, deliberations and adherence to rules. “, Mr. Dhankhar said while addressing the Rajya sabha.
