Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters Season 2 is coming and I completely agree with Anna Sawai on what should happen next in the MonsterVerse show.

Earlier this year, Godzilla x Kong: The New Kingdom open to the 2024 movie schedule and, like Godzilla vs. Kongcrushed at the box office. But that wasn’t the only story set in the MonsterVerse to watch in 2024, as the Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 1 finale abandoned in January, and a few months later, Season 2 has been officially announced. Although it is not yet clear when those who have a Apple TV+ subscription will be able to release the next batch of Monarch episodes, Anna Sawai shared what she thought about her character, Cate Randa, next season, and I completely agree with her.

Before gaining critical acclaim for her portrayal of Toda Mariko in Shogun (which can be broadcast with a Hulu Subscription) and won the Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series, Sawai beat out the Titans as Godzilla in Monarch. With season 2 recently starting filming, here’s what the actress had to say TV line on what she hopes for Cate:

I feel like Cate should have more agency. In season 1, she’s somewhat of the victim – immersed in all of this and sometimes wanting to return to her normal life. But after going down to Axis Mundi, she should come out a different person. She saw things she didn’t know before. They have answers and things to do now.

Many things have indeed been launched against Cate Randa in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters“Season one, from discovering her secret half-brother, Kentaro, to going on a global adventure with him, May and Lee Shaw to find their shared father, to ending up in Axis Mundi and meeting her grandmother Keiko, who had” I have not aged due to time passing differently in this area. When Cate, May and Keiko resurfaced from Axis Mundi, it was 2017, two years after the first two women had passed through that portal. So yes, Anna Sawai is right, a lot has happened has Cate, but it would be nice if she had more control when season 2 comes around.

Granted, there’s not a lot of control one can have when facing a Titan, but when those giant monsters aren’t present, I’ll be interested to see how the agency Sawai wants for Cate manifests in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 2. It may be a while before we get a first idea of what will happen, as no official plot details for Season 2 have yet been revealed outside of Amber Midthunder joins the cast. However, after Season 1 ends, we can infer that the Apple TV+ show will continue to explore the time period between the first MonsterVerse. Godzilla movie and Godzilla: King of the Monstersand Apex Cybernetics will also likely play a larger role in the narrative.
