Will there be a Christmas episode in season 1? (Exclusive)

Georgie and Mandy’s first marriage I may have celebrated Thanksgiving a little early, but don’t expect Young Sheldon a spin-off to celebrate the Christmas holidays soon.

The show’s Christmas festivities will be limited to Thanksgiving this time around as executive producer. Steve Holland offers an explanation behind the decision. “We’re not doing a Christmas episode this year,” Holland told TV Insider. “We did the Thanksgiving episode, which was awesome and felt like we were walking into Christmas…sometimes it’s hard to do these episodes and not have the whole family come.”

As fans will remember from the Thanksgiving episode, the McAllisters welcomed Georgie’s family, including her sister Missy (Raegan Revord), mother Marie (Zoe Perry), Meemaw (Annie Potts), and Dale (Craig T. Nelson). Although the event didn’t go as planned, it was a step in a positive direction as the Coopers and McAllisters reunited and Georgie helped her mother move forward after her father George Sr. .Lance Barbier) death.

The difficulty, Holland notes, is: “If you’re going to celebrate Christmas and it’s Cece’s (first) Christmas, how can you not have Mary and Meemaw in the mix?” And we had just hosted them for Thanksgiving and we felt like this might follow similar thematic terrain. So we chose Thanksgiving because it was kind of the first big holiday without George Sr.”

Although fans may not be treated to a Christmas episode, they have something to look forward to following it. Georgie and Mandy’s first marriage receive a order for the whole season at CBS. After the Thanksgiving episode on November 14, the season will resume with the episode “A Regular Samaritan”, airing on December 5.

And looking to the future, Holland teases: “We’re going to be looking even more into Georgie and Mandy’s relationship. We’re going to start exploring (and) learning a little more about Audrey (Rachel Bay Jones) and Jim (Will Sasso).”
