2024 election: Results show first major wins and losses in tight race

Green Party minister Catherine Martin topped the poll here in Rathdown four years ago, perhaps on the crest of a green wave that threatened to dissipate after her time in government.

With 39% of boxes open, early tallies based on first preference votes show his coalition colleagues are making great progress. Fine Gael junior minister Neale Richmond is performing well, followed by Fianna Fáil candidate Shay Brennan.

Social Democrat candidate Sineád Gibney, here watching the count at Ballinteer Community School, gets around 10% of first preferences based on initial counts, followed by Ms Martin at 9% and Sinn Féin’s Shaun Tracey at 9 %.

Currently, independent Michael Fleming scores around 8% based on first preference results.

These counts are based on the first preferences marked on the ballots in the entire district. Mr. Richmond and Mr. Brennan both have running mates, but it remains to be seen how the transfers might change the situation after the first count.
