When it comes to the debate over the No. 1 player in NBA history, Anthony Davis has made his choice clear.

In an interview with Fox Sports’ Melissa RohlinDavis explained why he thinks his Los Angeles Lakers teammate LeBron James deserves the greatest title of all time.

“He’s the best to ever lace up shoes, (scored) over 40,000 points and he’s broken almost every record possible,” Davis said. “So anytime you have a guy like that on your team, he gets so much attention. Plus, his IQ is really high, he plays the right way, things like that. I think now , it’s obvious he’s getting a little smarter older, still being able to do what he’s capable of doing, and he still knows night in and night out that he can compete at a high level.

In 20 starts this season, James is averaging 22.6 points, 8.1 rebounds and 9.4 assists per game with shooting times of 49.3/35.7/75.8.

Although his current average represents the lowest mark since his 2003-04 rookie campaign, it is still an extremely impressive accomplishment for a player who will be over 40 at the end of the regular season.

Davis took over the primary scoring role, averaging a team-high 28.6 points per game.

“But I just know that for us to be able to do something that we’ve talked about in previous years and this year, for us to get to the promised land, I have to play like I’m playing now,” Davis explained: per Rohlin. “There was never a conversation between him and I where we were like, ‘Hey, this is your team and I’m giving you the keys or whatever.’ It’s just something we played against each other and it happened.”

The Lakers suffered from inconsistency after a six-game winning streak that put them at 10-4 in 14 games, losing four of their next six games to fall to 12-8 on the season overall.

Still, Los Angeles sits in 6th place in the Western Conference standings and Davis confirmed he is focused on winning a second championship with the NBA’s all-time leading scorer.

“(LeBron and I) definitely want to win another championship,” Davis said. “I want to win another championship. I want a parade. I want to experience that. I know (LeBron) wants it. I know some guys on our team want to win their first. We’re all competitive and we’re all playing hard. for each other and just trying to play the right way for a common goal.”

After a one-point win against the Utah Jazz on Sunday, Davis and James will look to lead the Lakers on another winning streak in a matchup against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Monday.
