With the election of the next president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) scheduled for March 2025, the Ethics Commission published guidelines and regulations for the presentation of candidates to IOC members on January 30, 2025, as well as the voting rules for the 144th IOC. Session in Greece.

The IOC Executive Board approved both documents at its meeting on Tuesday.

The regulations concerning candidate presentations specify how they will take place, the rules surrounding them and the media interactions that will follow. The IOC informed in a press release on Tuesday that the presentations would take place behind closed doors and would follow the order of the draw announced on November 26.

The vote itself will take place during the 144th IOC Session in Greece from March 18 to 21, 2025. The vote will also take place behind closed doors and voting rounds will continue until one candidate obtains an absolute majority voices. The candidate obtaining the fewest votes in each round will be eliminated and will not participate in the next round.

The announcement of the new IOC President will be broadcast live after the session room reopens following the final round of voting. The term of the newly elected president will begin on June 24, 2025 and the current IOC President, Thomas Bach, will continue until then.

Seven candidates will compete for the election to the IOC presidency. The candidates will present their programs, in front of the camera, to all IOC members during a meeting to be held in Lausanne (Switzerland) on January 30, 2025.

The candidates, in order of draw, are: HRH Prince Feisal Al Hussein, David Lappartient, Johan Eliasch, Juan Antonio Samaranch Jr, Kirsty Coventry, Lord Sebastian Coe and Morinari Watanabe.
