Will the new Maharashtra CM finally be announced? All eyes are on the crucial BJP meeting in Mumbai today

The next chief minister of Maharashtra is expected to be announced today, December 4, days after the Mahayuti won a landslide victory in the parliamentary elections. The likely announcement after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislature meeting in Mumbai will perhaps end the suspense over caretaker Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s successor in Maharashtra.

The BJP legislature party meeting is scheduled to take place at Vidhan Bhawan. The BJP, which emerged as the largest party by winning 132 seats in the parliamentary elections. 280-member Maharashtra Housewill elect its leader at the crucial meeting.

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and former Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani – the BJP’s central observers for the legislature party meeting – arrived in Mumbai on Tuesday evening.

THE Assembly elections in Maharashtra were held on November 20 and the results were announced on November 23. Mahayuti won 230 seats. Besides BJP’s 132 seats, Shinde-led Shiv Sena won 57 seats, while Ajit PawarThe PCN won 41 seats.

Fadnavis CM, Shinde, Pawar Dy CM?

Since then, speculation has been made on who will be the next Chief Minister of Maharashtra – Eknath Shinde or Devendra Fadnavis. What fueled rumors of a possible stalemate was Shinde’s sudden “ill health” and his decision to visit his native village soon after his meeting with senior BJP leaders in Delhi last week.

The likely announcement will end the suspense over who will succeed caretaker Chief Minister Eknath Shinde in Maharashtra.

Amid delay in government formation, BJP leader and two-time chief minister, Fadnavis established himself as the favorite of the race. Shinde would have agreed to serve as Deputy Chief Minister in the next Mahayuti government. Fadnavis visited Shinde at his home official residenceVarsha in south Mumbai on Tuesday evening, hours before today’s meeting.

Once the official announcement is made today, the inauguration ceremony of the new Mahayuti government will take place on December 5 at Azad Maidan in Mumbai. Eknath Shinde is expected to take oath alongside Fadnavis and NCP chief Ajit Pawar during the oath-taking in the presence of senior BJP leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
