Inmate who escaped from Harris County Joint Processing Center given million bond

HOUSTON – The inmate who escaped Thursday while being processed at the Harris County Joint Processing Center was given a $1 million bond.

Daniel Eugene Douglas, 22, managed to escape from the parking lot of the downtown Houston processing center while being escorted with three other inmates by Baytown police officers around noon Thursday.

Douglas was then located by Metro PD and taken into custody.

He was initially charged with aggravated assault in a domestic violence case.

“Anyone charged with a violent crime is concerned about public safety. We appreciate the efforts of everyone involved in ensuring his quick capture,” Baytown police said in a statement Thursday.

Court records indicate Douglas was given a $1 million bond on the escape charge.

His next court date is set for Monday.
