There are two things Tingle Creek told us: first, Jonbon it is better at Sandown than at Cheltenham; Secondly, Jonbon is the horse to beat in the Champion Chase and he is undoubtedly the big favorite.

Are these mutually exclusive points or can they be married? It’s a mystery to punters wondering if 5-2 is a good price for the 2025 Champion Chase. If the race were at Sandown he would be 6-4, but that’s not the case, so where does this leave us?

I always thought the Cheltenham thing with Jonbon was overplayed, but Aidan Coleman told me a few weeks ago that he always felt like a different horse around Sandown when he rode him. And facts are facts. He is 14-14 at the Cotswolds and the only three defeats of his life have come there.
