Looks like the Cowboys are about to let Mike McCarthy waste another season

Looks like the Cowboys are about to let Mike McCarthy waste another season

Jerry Jones should have learned from his mistake the last time he did that. It was reported that there was a chance Mike McCarthy returns after this season as the players support the coach despite a horrible season.

Jones brought back Jason Garrett when he should have been fired and it didn’t go well. Why does he think there’s a chance it could work with McCarthy?

According to Jon Machotawho covers the Cowboys for The Athletic, there is talk of Jones considering a move back with McCarthy. And honestly, that makes no sense. With or without Dak Prescott, this Cowboys season has been derailed.

And McCarthy is responsible for that. If Jones brings McCarthy back, it’s not because he’s the best coaching candidate. This is because no one wants to have an owner who is too involved.

Jones can push McCarthy around. He won’t be lucky enough to be able to do that with this coaching pool. And it will be a familiar feeling for Cowboys fans if, after this season ends, McCarthy returns for a contract extension.

We’ve already seen the best of the Cowboys as long as McCarthy has been coach. Prior to this season, he had three straight 12-win seasons and only has one playoff victory to show for it.

It’s the best Dallas Cowboys will be. Because if that wasn’t the case, of the three times they reached 12 wins, they would have had a deeper playoff run than just one win. Kyle Shanahan has led the San Francisco 49ers to two Super Bowls over the past five seasons.

Why can’t McCarthy make it happen? Expectations are high and every year McCarthy is saved with excuse after excuse. Well, if Jones knew what was the best thing for this team, he wouldn’t give McCarthy another chance to ruin another season for the Cowboys.

But Jones doesn’t have the team’s success at the forefront. This is why they haven’t taken any real steps to improve the list. And that’s why it’s even fun to bring McCarthy back.

Cowboys fans deserve better, for better or worse. They deserve an owner who truly cares about winning a championship again. They deserve a coach who can win when it counts and won’t get a slap on the wrist for mediocre seasons.

But that’s asking a lot of Jones. So if McCarthy returns next season, don’t expect anything different than what he’s already done. He won’t have more than 12 wins in the regular season and will find a way to lose a playoff game, whether in the first or second round.
