He says it is a summary offense under section 268(a) of the Crimes Act 2009 to drive a vehicle in a reckless or negligent manner that endangers human life or is likely to cause harm to another person. The penalty for such an offense is imprisonment of up to two years.

“The 21-year-old truck driver – who held an expired learner’s permit at the time of the Tacirua incident – has had his license canceled for five years due to the seriousness of the accident,” he said. declared.

“This is a lesson for everyone who has a driver’s license – whether it’s a learner’s permit, provisional or full license – you must respect and adhere to the conditions of your license. When you choose not to follow these road safety rules and regulations, you are choosing to put the lives of all road users at risk.

“The Authority has zero tolerance for reckless driving. This swift action to revoke the 21-year-old’s driving license sends a clear message: we will not hesitate to take action against those who put lives at risk on our roads.
