A cold rescue

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – We are learning more about a rescue made earlier this month by Charles City Police and Floyd County Search and Rescue. Last Friday, before last week’s ice storm, authorities received a call about a dog stuck on the Cedar River in Charles City.

Charles City Police Chief Hugh Anderson said the dog went out onto the ice and ended up falling into the freezing waters. He said when they arrived on scene, they threw a rope to try to help the dog, but the ice was too thin for officers to get out, so they called for help. Using their special rescue suits, called Mustang Suits, the search and rescue teams were able to bring the Yellow Lab back to dry land. Anderson said even though it was cold on the river, there was no doubt they weren’t going to try to get the dog to safety.

“Anyone who has pets knows they are part of a family and Justin could relate to that too. When we get there, and this dog is whining and crying like before, I don’t think it would be very difficult not to do something. » relived Chief Hugh Anderson of the Charles City Police Department.

Anderson says the dog and its owner were taken to the vet in a police car after being rescued. He said the owner told the department the dog was now doing very well.
