Northern Supply Law almost solves container problems – Business & Economy

ST. PETERSBURG, December 23. /TASS/. The work of the headquarters of the Ministry of Far Eastern and Arctic Development on supplies to the North within the framework of the new law on such shipments made it possible to almost completely eliminate the problem of problematic wagons and containers that s deviated from the schedule or encountered other obstacles. The number of such problematic objects has decreased from 1,500 to just a few, First Deputy Minister for Development of the Far East and Arctic Gadjimagomed Guseynov said at the Arctic forum: present and future .

“The Northern Supply Act came into force on April 1 and it lists territories and survival cargoes. <...> Thanks to the work of the headquarters created at the Ministry of Far Eastern and Arctic Development, Together with federal authorities and regions, we have reduced the number of simultaneously problematic wagons and containers from 1,580 units to two containers. We have eliminated the risks associated with the delivery of more than 7,500 containers and rail cars. The Northern supply plan in 2024 has been completed. almost 100%, 99.8% to be more exact,” he said.

The new approach to northern supplies involves the creation of a federal information system to monitor the process, resolve emerging logistics issues and optimize shipments. Work on the system has started, the deputy minister added.

The ministry and other authorities have identified transport and logistics infrastructure of around 350 facilities and are now also working on a single maritime operator to use the most efficient logistics approaches. The Deputy Minister highlighted the successful experience of trade and logistics centers in the Arctic, where ten such facilities were organized in Yakutia.

Mikhail Kuznetsov, director of Vostokgosplan, told TASS that 10 to 15 more trade and logistics centers would be organized throughout the Arctic to ensure deliveries and good prices. These centers could be created in the Arctic within a year, he added.
