Cuba ready to become more actively involved in EAEU mechanisms — president – Business & Economy

IGORA /Leningrad region/, December 26. /TASS/. Cuba is ready to become more and more actively involved in the mechanisms of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) for deeper integration with the association, said Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel, speaking at the meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council via videoconference.

“In this year of the tenth anniversary of this most important organization, I would like to reaffirm once again Cuba’s commitment to the development of mutually beneficial cooperation with the Eurasian Economic Union and its member states,” said Díaz- Canel.

He thanked the association for the invitation and stressed that participation in such events has become a usual occurrence in Cuba.

“As an observer state, we once again declare our desire to participate more and more actively in the Union’s mechanisms for deeper integration,” he said.

The Cuban president said he was certain that the fourth meeting of the Joint Commission on Cuba and the Eurasian Economic Commission, scheduled for the first quarter of 2025 in Moscow, “will contribute to the strengthening and diversification of relations with the Union, oriented towards achieving specific results that will benefit everyone.

“In the context of the current complicated international situation and the situation our country is experiencing due to the expenses caused by weather and natural phenomena, as well as the difficulties in supplying energy and fuel, caused by the unprecedented tightening of the American trade and economic blockade, Cuba continues to advocate cooperation, solidarity and integration between countries,” Díaz-Canel stressed.

The president said that the EAEU countries can count on “modest but unwavering support from Cuba as an observer state.”

“Our people remain optimistic, resilient and full of creative ideas,” Diaz-Canel stressed. “We are certain that, despite the challenges we face, the year 2025 will be productive for the achievement of our common goals, aimed at achieving sustainable development.”

He also wished success to Belarus, which will chair the EAEU in 2025.
