Government issues rules and regulations under Post Act

New Delhi, Dec 26 (PTI) The government has notified a new set of subordinate legislations under the Post Office Act and the latest rules and regulations signal a shift from the traditional approach of providing courier services to providing of citizen-centered services, and involve the opening of new avenues and the creation of jobs through the services that can be offered by post offices, according to an official statement.

The norms have been formulated with the motto ‘Dak Sewa Jan Sewa’ and aim to create subordinate legislation with a simplified language and vision of ‘maximum governance and minimum government’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’, it adds.

The Ministry of Posts initiated legislative reforms and drafted new legislation “Postal Act 2023” in December last year. The law came into force in June this year.

“To take this initiative forward, a new set of subordinate legislations under the Post Office Act, 2023, namely the Post Office Rules, 2024 and the Post Office Regulations, 2024, have also been framed. Government of India notified the said subordinate legislations through the Official Gazette and they came into force on December 16, 2024,” the statement said.

The 2024 Post Office Rules are intended as an enabler for the services to be provided by post offices. This involves opening new avenues for the ministry and creating jobs through the services that can be offered through the Post Office, using the extensive postal network to provide access to citizen-centric service delivery , even in remote and remote parts of the country. collaborations with public and private entities.

The rules also have futuristic aspects in terms of address identifiers (digital address) and digital mode – payment of postage or others. It further recognizes the sovereign function in the issuance of postage stamps, including stamps in digital form, and allows for the resolution of grievances.

These rules do not contain any criminal provisions, the press release added.

The Post Office Regulations, 2024 specify the details and operational aspects of the products and services offered by the Post Office across the country and also contain enabling provisions for insurance and financial services offered through the Post Office network. job.

Describing the main features of the new regulations, he said the limit on the amount of remittances by money order has been doubled to reach 10,000 to cover disbursement of various welfare schemes.

“Parcel has been made compulsorily accountable with track and trace features to facilitate business of small businesses and micro small and medium enterprises.
