Limpopo man arrested in Giyani for theft and hijacking, 33-year-old arrested after a year on the run

  • A 33-year-old man was arrested again, a year after fleeing following his first arrest.
  • The man was initially arrested in 2023 for commercial theft, but fled before his court appearance.
  • Police also arrested two other men who were found in possession of firearms and a round of ammunition.

LIMPOPO – A man on the run for more than a year has finally been arrested.

The 33-year-old is set to appear in court on January 6, 2025 following his arrest on January 3.

He is wanted for a business flight in October 2023 to Giyani.

Arrest warrant issued a year later

According to the police, the man was initially arrested in 2023 for the theft, but did not appear in the regional court. He fled and eventually, an arrest warrant was issued for him on December 11, 2024.

He was found at Giyani Ma-two-bedroom in Mountain View, where he was arrested with two accomplices. While on the run, he was also linked to a carjacking.

Men will face numerous charges

During the arrest, law enforcement found the keys to a black Audi in his pockets. The key belonged to a vehicle which had been hijacked and abandoned at Nkomo village 22B.

Following further investigations, police also arrested a 38-year-old man who was found in possession of an unlicensed 9mm pistol and a 29-year-old man found with an unlicensed 9mm firearm and a live bullet.

The arrested fugitive now faces charges of business theft and carjacking, while his accomplices will be charged with possession of a firearm without a license. The 29-year-old man will also be charged with illegal possession of ammunition.

While some South Africans praised the police for making his arrest, others spoke of his early escape.

Man arrested 13 years after crime

In a related article, a cash-in-transit thief was arrested 13 years after committing a crime thanks to DNA.

In brief News reported that the man dropped a glove at the scene of a 2012 robbery, which was then sent for DNA testing.

South Africans were amused by the news but also surprised by the time it took to get the DNA results.
