IRS Announces Start and Deadline for 2025 Tax Filing Season

The Internal Revenue Service has announced the start of the nation’s 2025 tax season.

The IRS expects more than 140 million individual tax returns for tax year 2024 to be filed between Jan. 27 and April 15, the agency said in a statement.

Every year, Americans with taxable income, file tax returns by submitting documents to the IRS to show how much money they earned in a year and how much taxes they paid, according to H&R block.

People who paid more throughout the year than they owe in taxes receive a refund in the form of a tax refund, the IRS explained on its website.

If the required percentage is not paid on the person’s taxable income throughout the year, they will likely owe money to the IRS, which will be received in the form of a tax invoice.

Regardless of whether the person expects a tax bill and a tax “payment” or refund, they are required to file a return if they received taxable income.

Tax preparation service Jackson Hewitt says people can start preparing to file their taxes for 2024 “whenever you’re ready!” »

This may include using a tax preparation service to prepare all necessary documents, including income-related items, deductions and other documents by January 27.

“Organizing in this way not only helps you prepare and stay prepared, but it also provides incentives for you and your tax professional to claim a new or different tax deduction or credit.” the service indicates.
