James Cameron Teases Major Surprises and Surprises in Avatar 3: ‘We’ll Also Explore New Worlds’

James Cameron is preparing fans for a change of heart and perspective with Avatar 3, scheduled for release on December 19. The renowned filmmaker recently revealed some major details about the next installment of the hit franchise.

The Oscar-winning director spoke to Empire magazine about what fans can expect in the latest installment of the Avatar series. He stated that the third film would change the state of the franchise’s moral dynamics by portraying the Ash people, or the Mangkwan clan, as somewhat different from what viewers had initially perceived.

Cameron said, “Varang (Oona Chaplin) is the leader of a people who have been through incredible ordeals. She is hardened by it. She will do anything for them, even things we would consider bad.”

Cameron explained that Avatar 3 would look to move beyond the simplistic presentation of good versus evil. The film is no longer a story in which all humans are inherently evil and all Na’vi are virtuous. Instead, both groups will have more complexity; the Na’vi will no longer be considered perfect but will instead appear multidimensional.

He further revealed, “One thing we wanted to do in this film is not be simplistic in black and white. We are trying to evolve beyond the “all humans are bad, all Na’vi are good” paradigm.

In an interview with French newspaper 20 Minutes, Cameron said he wanted to reveal new aspects of Pandora, where the Ash people would add more depth to the series’ cultural study.

The director added: “In the first films, there are very negative human examples and very positive Na’vi examples. In Avatar 3, we will do the opposite. We will also explore new worlds while continuing the story of the main characters.

James Cameron promises the audience a continuation of the protagonists’ plot while revealing new worlds and themes. While the first two films were something of a trailblazer in terms of storytelling, the rest, including Avatar 3, is where the real story takes place.
