Ms. Warner, who lives with her family in New Haw in Surrey, described Arlo as “a cuddly and loving little boy”, but said that life as a full -time caregiver is difficult.
“Being a parent of a child with special needs is much more than being a parent.
“You are their observer 24 hours a day. You cannot leave them alone.
“It is not only the benevolent aspect which is 24/7.
“It is constant concern. You can’t get away from it … and I think you are physically tired.
“You are drained at the end of the day – there are so many things you need to do. There are so many things you are going through.”
The carefree charity checks the caregivers who need a respite and connects them with available hotels.
As Christmas approaches last year, Gabrielle and Charlie stayed at the Nobu hotel in Shoreditch.
“For the first time for a very long time, we were able to leave the hotel and walk and just watch the stores – just to walk around and hold out and get a meal and chat. It was so charming – it was so pleasant.”
