Pornhub to be banned in 13 US states in 2025 after new state added

Pornhub, one of the world’s largest adult entertainment platforms, is set to be blocked in 13 US states by 2025.

The move comes as new state laws mandate stricter age verification protocols for accessing adult content and impose stiff penalties for non-compliance.

Florida recently became the latest state to pass such regulations, joining 12 other states in blocking the NSFW site.

Affected states include:

  • Florida
  • Kentucky
  • Indiana
  • Idaho
  • Kansas
  • Nebraska
  • Texas
  • North Carolina
  • Montana
  • Mississippi
  • Virginia
  • Arkansas
  • Utah

These restrictions are part of a growing movement to better regulate adult content online, particularly with regard to protecting young audiences and ensuring user safety.

New laws, like Florida’s HB 3, require full age verification of all visitors to adult websites.

Sites that do not comply face fines of up to $50,000.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis stressed the need for these measures, citing concerns about predators exploiting digital platforms to harm children.

“You can have a child in the house safely, apparently, and then you have predators that can come in,” DeSantis noted.

Pornhub’s parent company, Aylo, responded to the series of bans by expressing opposition to the requirements.

Aylo argued that such regulations risked exposing users to privacy vulnerabilities by requiring sensitive personal information.

He also warned that these laws could push users to less regulated or non-compliant sites, bypassing the very protections these measures aim to enforce.

The law’s implications extend beyond Pornhub.

They signal an era of tighter control over online adult content and raise questions about the balance between user privacy, corporate accountability and government oversight.

While many welcome the restrictions as necessary measures to protect young internet users, others criticize them because they risk driving consumption of adult content underground and making it harder for legitimate users to access it.

For Pornhub users in affected states, these restrictions will likely take effect in early 2025.

As discussions around digital liability intensify, this development could set a precedent for broader regulatory measures in the online adult content industry.
