Carnival clarifies types of spray items prohibited

Cruise lines often get creative to ensure that everything they pack can be unpacked in perfect condition, but that’s not always possible when clothes are crammed into their luggage for a long journey to the ship.

Sprays such as anti-wrinkle are often a lifesaver for evening wear, but not all types of spray are permitted on board.

Or rather, how the spray is packaged can make a big difference in whether or not it can be taken on a cruise ship, as some guests have learned.

The issue was brought to the attention of Carnival Cruise Line brand ambassador John Heald with a unique question about these sprays.

“We’re heading to the port, so no TSA limits to deal with. I would like to bring full size spray cans (anti-wrinkle and Lysol spray),” » asked the guest. “Did it say on (a Facebook page) that these were allowed on board? What is the right information?

While the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) limits travelers to small-sized bottles, cruise passengers traveling to the ship’s home port are not subject to such limits. A full-size spray can can be very useful, especially on longer sailings where more clothes may need to be ironed.

Many guests also bring their own Lysol or other disinfectant sprays on board for an added guarantee of cleanliness, using these sprays in their cabins. Heald noted, however, that aerosol cans of any size are not permitted on board.

“While we allow deodorants and hair products in aerosol form, we do not allow flammable aerosols such as the ones you mentioned.” Heald confirmed.

Carnival Cruise Line list of prohibited items specifically mentions aerosol cans as well as flammable substances and dangerous chemicals as prohibited.

Aerosol cans containing “personal care products,” however, are an exemption. Cruise passengers could therefore bring deodorants, hairspray, styling mousse and similar products in aerosol cans.

However, anti-wrinkle products and sanitizing sprays remain prohibited when packaged in aerosol cans. Aerosols are pressurized containers that use propellants to expel contents, and these propellants may themselves be flammable. Additionally, pressurizing the cartridges could be dangerous if not handled carefully.

Heald offers an alternative option that travelers are allowed to bring.

“If you want to bring wipes instead of spray, that’s no problem.” he mentioned.

Other commenters also noted that spray or pump bottles of both products are available. Because they are not pressurized and do not use potentially dangerous propellants, these full-size cylinders are permitted.

Carnival cruise ships have self-service laundry facilities, excluding Excel Class ships. Guests can also use the irons in these rooms to remove annoying wrinkles from clothes. It is also possible to use Carnival’s laundry services for a fee. We have a complete laundry guide here.

Choosing clothes with wrinkle-resistant fabrics, packing them more lightly so the clothes don’t get too crushed, and using steam in onboard showers to help fabrics relax are other tactics for wrinkle-resistant clothing that doesn’t require No packing extra chemicals.

Why Some Common Items May Be Banned

Many cruise passengers may be surprised to know what types of items are prohibited by cruise lines, but it is important to remember that such bans are always made for safety reasons.

For example, in November 2024, Carnival Cruise Line has completely banned Bluetooth speakers. At first glance, this may seem like a courtesy to guests who do not want to listen to each other’s music, but it is actually a safety issue in case emergency announcements on board cannot be made. heard.

Even some obviously banned items can cause controversy. While no one disagrees with banning guns, toys that look like guns are also not allowed, even if they are Christmas gifts. A family recently discovered this when the The Nerf gun they bought for their son for Christmas was confiscated before a vacation cruise.

It should be noted that confiscated items are usually returned to travelers at the end of the trip rather than being thrown away, provided the items are not illegal in any way.
