Environment Advisor Syeda Rizwana Hasan said district administrations, municipalities and the environment ministry will strengthen joint efforts to combat hill cutting and use of banned polythene.

The councilor focused on installing warning signs on the hills, increasing patrols and sending letters to hill owners to prevent the hills from being cut down. She warned that strict legal action would be taken against those who violate the law.

She added that they would prepare a list of polythene manufacturers and legal action would be taken against them.

She stressed the need for mandatory barcodes on packaging and advocated roving judicial operations in markets and supermarkets.

She also stressed the importance of intercepting trucks carrying polythene.

The meeting was addressed by Chattogram City Mayor Shahadat Hossain, Environment Secretary Farhina Ahmed, Local Government Division Secretary Md Nazrul Islam, CDA Chairman and others.

Representatives of government and non-government organizations, environmental groups, business leaders and media professionals from Chattogram attended the meeting virtually.
