Details emerge on why Zion Williamson was suspended

On Friday afternoon, the New Orleans Pelicans announced they were suspending Zion Williamson for a single game after violating team policies.

It was later revealed that Williamson showed up late for the team’s flight to Philadelphia and was forced to sit on the sidelines as his team beat the 76ers on Friday night.

Now Williamson is speaking out and taking responsibility for his actions.

According to Rod Walker, Williamson said:

“I take full responsibility for this suspension. I worked extremely hard in rehabilitation to be healthy and able to serve this team. There is no excuse for being late for team activities. I have apologized to Ms. Benson and my teammates and coaches and I owe the fans an apology as well. I can and will be better as a teammate and member of this organization.

Williamson was reportedly late to numerous practices throughout the season, so it appears this latest incident was just the straw that broke the camel’s back.

In the grand scheme of things, sitting out a game isn’t a big deal and, fortunately, the Pelicans have done just fine without him.

But if it happens again, Williamson could face a harsher sentence and miss several games.

This could also influence the team’s plans for Williamson’s future.

There have been rumors that the Pelicans were considering moving him to another team.

After years of being their biggest star, New Orleans could finally make a move and fire Williamson.

If the front office feels he’s not committed and is going to continue to make mistakes like this, they can be even more aggressive with a trade involving him.

Williamson promised he would do better and it wouldn’t happen again.

But will this change his destiny and his future in New Orleans?
