A woman sparks a viral conversation after sharing that her sister was upset about the name she chose for her child – arguing that it “conflicts” with her own baby name choices.

In a post shared on Redditthe woman writes that she and her sister were raised by their father and stepmother, who was named Leigh-Ann. Leigh-Ann died five years ago and now the woman has chosen to honor her by naming her daughter Leanna.

“My sister had the same idea of wanting to honor Leigh-Ann and named her 2-year-old Lee,” the woman wrote. “We told her we had chosen the name Leanna for the child we are expecting. The sister is very upset because she said it conflicts with her choice of name for her baby.”

She continued: “My sister is not currently pregnant but wanted to name her future daughter Ann or Anna as another way to honor Leigh-Ann. She thinks it would be stupid for her children to be named Lee and Anna with a cousin named Leanna.

Although the woman agrees that names can be “confusing,” she adds, “we had no idea she wanted to give a future child another honorary name.”

“At first we knew Lee and Leanna had pretty similar names, but I thought they were different enough that it wouldn’t be too weird or confusing,” she shares.

Both women were close to their mother-in-law, and as a result, the woman writes: “I don’t think she should be the only one who can use an honorary name. In the end, she can always name her future children, whatever she wants.

Now, the woman claims her sister makes “passive-aggressive comments” every chance she gets.

“For example, we were shopping with her and Lee and Lee picked out some kind of stuffed animal. Lee dropped it off in the Wal-Mart parking lot on the way back to the car,” she wrote. “My sister quickly picks it up and hands it to him and says, ‘Careful buddy, she might want to steal it too.’ “

She continues, “I’m pretty sure she was trying to imply that we stole a version of her name or something, but the whole interaction was pretty weird in my opinion.”

Commenters mostly agreed with the poster, with one writing: “You can’t own a name. Please name your child whatever you want. Don’t back down. Sister seems like a nightmare.”

“I also think my sister is ridiculous and has the right to think she has the right to name TWO kids after her mother-in-law (or whoever) but (the poster original) cannot even give the name of his mother-in-law to a single child,” adds another.
