India, Kuwait decide to strengthen counter-terrorism cooperation during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit

India and Kuwait on Sunday pledged to strengthen their counter-terrorism cooperation while unequivocally condemning terrorism in all its forms, including cross-border terrorist activities.

Ways to address the challenge of terrorism featured in discussions between the two sides during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to this Gulf country.

“Both sides unequivocally condemned terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, including cross-border terrorism and called for the disruption of terrorist financing networks and safe havens, as well as the dismantling of terrorist infrastructure,” said a joint press release.

The reference to cross-border terrorism comes in the context of Pakistan’s support for terrorist activities in Jammu and Kashmir.

On Sunday, Modi held in-depth talks with Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Kuwaiti Prime Minister Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah and Crown Prince Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah strives to give new impetus to bilateral relations as a whole.

The joint statement said the two sides discussed ways and means to promote cooperation on cybersecurity, including preventing the use of cyberspace for terrorism, radicalization and disruption of social harmony.

He said it was agreed to strengthen cooperation in counter-terrorism operations, sharing of information and intelligence and exchange of experiences and best practices.

“Expressing satisfaction with their ongoing bilateral cooperation in the field of security, the two sides agreed to strengthen cooperation in counter-terrorism operations, sharing of information and intelligence, development and exchange of experiences, best practices and technologies, capacity building and strengthening cooperation in law enforcement, anti-money laundering,” according to the statement.

Following discussions between Modi and the Emir, the two sides elevated their ties to a strategic partnership.
