Predicting the fate of every 2025 Patriots free agent

Eric Canha-USA TODAY Sports

Jacoby Brissett signed a one-year deal to serve as the Patriots’ interim starter before rookie quarterback Drake Maye is ready to take the reins.

While Brissett has been helpful, he hasn’t committed to returning to the team next season, and the Patriots appear locked into Maye as the franchise quarterback they hope to build around. Part of rebuilding is not spending too much money early on on luxury positions, such as backup quarterback.

The current goal should be to attract as much high-end talent as possible.

Brissett will probably have decent money for a year or two elsewhere, and I could see the Indianapolis Colts calling him home on a low-risk deal. Joe Flacco has been valuable to the Colts as someone who can take the reins when needed.

Anthony Richardson is off to a rough start and has already seen his fair share of injuries so far. Flacco might also decide to hang it up considering he turns 40 this year. Hiring a veteran like Brissett makes sense.

Prediction: Colts, one year, $6.5 million
