Philippe Clement tells Rangers to be MORE SEXUAL but boss insists his team is ‘improving’ after St Johnstone win

RANGERS boss Philippe Clement admitted his side weren’t “sexy” enough after securing a 1-0 win over St Johnstone.

But the Belgian insists there are plenty of positives that suggest his side are on the right trajectory.

Rangers dominated the ball in Perth but struggled to make a breakthrough.

That goal ultimately took the form of an own goal from former Ibrox star Jason Holt, who blasted into his own net from close range under pressure from James Tavernier.

There was no second and the Gers secured a well-deserved, albeit slim, victory at McDiarmid Park.

The pressure was on towards Perth with Rangers trailing Celtic by 14 points and second-placed Aberdeen by nine before kick-off.

A terrible 1-1 draw against Dundee United last weekend, the Light Blues lost further ground, even if Thursday’s 4-1 Europa League win over Nice was a welcome response for Rangers supporters.

But while European form has been good, domestic form has not, so it was a win at all costs for the Gers this afternoon.

They took that win and although it was only by one goal, Clement insisted it was a dominant display and a well-deserved three points.

He did, however, challenge his players to be more SEXY in the future.

The Rangers manager said Aerial sports: “Well-deserved victory. Domination throughout the match. We only had one shot on target away from home.

“But you have to score more goals to be sexier, what we want to be for our fans, to have more entertainment in that way but also to kill the confidence of the opponents.

Kilmarnock boss Derek McInnes IS NOT the answer to Rangers’ problems, says Bill Leckie

“So it’s still an important point, but I see a lot of positive things in the team, players who are growing, improving, doing more and more the right things.

“It’s important after a European trip, a big victory, to react directly at national level too and get the deserved points and that was the case today.”

Asked how Rangers can make things “sexier”, Clement “Is it that simple? No, it’s not easy because that’s the case with a lot of teams in the world, they don’t score three or four goals every week, it’s not like That.

“We may have also had bad luck in recent weeks, we are playing against goalkeepers who are playing the match of their lives.

“Today the goalkeeper made again – like last week – a lot of very good saves, so the finishing was good but they showed quality on the other side.

“It’s about continuing to do that and sometimes still being in a better position in the 16 and making better choices.

“But it’s a work in progress. I see in other parts of the game we’re growing and getting better and better.

“If you score four goals in a European away game in Nice, you can’t say we’re not scoring enough goals either.

“Some games are there, some games less so, but the team kept pushing and also did the right things with the ball.

“We never had any problems during the match and, neither at the end, thanks to their numerical advantage, we defended well and tried to score the second goal.

“It’s a shame you don’t score the second or third, otherwise you are more comfortable at the end of the game.”
