Did you miss receiving the Recovery Rebate Credit in 2021?

The IRS just announced plans to make the payments starting at the end of the month to 1 million taxpayers who didn’t claim it when filing their 2021 tax returns.

“The IRS announced this special action after reviewing internal data showing that many eligible taxpayers had filed a return but had not claimed the credit,” the agency said in a statement. press release.

While most eligible taxpayers have received their stimulus checks or credit, those who have not can expect to receive their 2021 stimulus rebate credit at the end of January if they have not received a check recovery before.

Here’s what you need to know.

How much money will be sent?

Taxpayers can expect to receive a maximum of $1,400, according to the IRS. In total, $2.4 billion will be sent to those who did not receive the credit.

How do I receive my stimulus payment?

People don’t need to do anything to receive their payments, as they will be automatically sent to taxpayers in December and will arrive in most cases by the end of January.

Eligible taxpayers will receive a separate letter informing them of the payment.

Payments will automatically be directly deposited or sent by paper check, according to the IRS.

Payment will be deposited directly into the bank account listed on the eligible individual’s 2023 tax return or sent to the address on file.

What if I haven’t filed my 2021 taxes?

People who didn’t file their taxes in 2021 may still be eligible to receive their stimulus checks, the IRS said.

But they only have until April 15, 2025 to “file their returns to claim the credit and any other reimbursement that may be due to them.”

Who is entitled to the special payment?

Individuals who placed a $0 in the field for the Recovery Rebate Credit on their 2021 tax forms or left the section blank are eligible for the credit.

According to the IRS, those who receive the payment are “taxpayers whose IRS data demonstrates that a taxpayer qualifies for the credit.”
