Weirton groups spread holiday cheer with meals for high-rise residents and shut-ins

Several Weirton organizations came together to serve meals to those in need.

All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, in conjunction with the Salvation Army, the Town of Weirton and other organizations, came together to provide takeout Christmas dinners to community members in need. Meals were first brought to residents living in high-rise apartments and people locked in the church. Then, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., anyone who needed a meal could pick one up on All Saints’ Day. Organizers say coming together and helping someone is at the heart of the takeout’s mission.

“This is the second annual community Christmas takeaway dinner that demonstrates exactly that. We have about 5-10 different organizations represented here, as well as individual volunteers who took time out of their Saturdays over the Christmas period to provide for those in need,” said Deputy City Manager Deeann Pulliam.

The takeout meal included turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, pumpkin pie and more.
