In Ontario, a 16-year-old charged with murder after the discovery of the death of a newborn

Police say a 16-year-old has been charged with murder after a newborn was found dead in a home in New Tecumseth, Ont.

Ontario Provincial Police said the teen was arrested Wednesday, nearly two months after the baby was found dead.

The teenager from New Tecumseth, a town between Barrie and Toronto, was charged with first-degree murder and indignity to a body.

Police said officers found the newborn dead on the afternoon of Nov. 21 at a home in Alliston, the city’s largest community.

The case was initially investigated as a suspicious death before being ruled a homicide.

Police said the accused teen is scheduled to appear in a Barrie court on Thursday.
