‘It’s not a complete break in security protocol’ for New Orleans attack, says retired FBI agent

We reported in the article below that the New Orleans police chief was defending his force’s security plan in the wake of the attack.

Our presenter, Sophie Ridgejust spoke to retired FBI Special Agent Michael Tabman and asked his opinion.

“We can’t predict everything”

He said: “Well, just the fact that we had such a tragic event with many casualties, we say there was a security breach and maybe it wasn’t good planning .

“However, from the police chief’s perspective, you close the streets and you take whatever precautions you deem reasonable based on the information you have at the time.

“Without them having specific information indicating a potential terrorist threat, I don’t know if we should say that they really failed, as long as it was just a security breach, that it There was a flaw in the system that someone took advantage of.

“You can’t predict everything. If someone used another method that we weren’t ready for, then they say, ‘Why didn’t you prepare for that?’

“So I think the chief has a defensible position in that they put up a barricade and there was a police officer on site. That did not accomplish the task of stopping that vehicle from entering.

“So we had a breach that needs to be looked at for future events, but I wouldn’t say we had a total breakdown of security protocol.”
