Why Rams’ rise from good to great depends on Stafford

When analyzing the Los Angeles Rams this season, there are many factors and variables you can consider. Whether it’s the coaching, the injuries, the youth of the team or their play on the pitch, it all has the makings of a good team. But the Rams want to be a great team.

The Rams weather the storm at the start of the season, starting 1-4 with multiple injuries to key players. During that time, they faced some growing pains with a young defense, but things got better week by week. Veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford did a great job giving Rams have a chance to make the playoffs throughout the section.

This Rams team could have easily thrown up the white flag and simply ended the season right from the start with their struggles. But the head coach Sean McVay and his staff trusted their players, especially the young core, and each week they took a step forward. Now it’s time to put it all together and make it awesome.

“For me, it’s Matthew Stafford who needs to raise the bar, especially in the first training sessions,” said former Rams defensive tackle D’Marco Farr. “He has to be the best quarterback in the building. And I still think he’s there. When we talk about him, it’s high praise and it’s deserved. He’s one of the best talents we’ve seen throw the football correctly. But on some of those first drives, you have to be able to be precise.

“He has to be accurate throwing the ball, to guard those 1st-and-10s, 2nd-and-2s, and 3rd-and-1s and make it easy for your offense to convert…The Rams’ strength is in the run, the running game execution, set up play action, then let that golden arm do its damage.”

With Stafford and the Ram offense Being able to hold practices early on in games also gives the defense time to settle in and take some of the pressure off. The Rams are still a team, if they make the playoffs, no one was going to see them.
