“If these walls could talk, the stories would be incredible. »

The Jones brothers…Jimmy, John And Vic— shared these words in a video message Tuesday as they announced the impending closure of their longtime nightclub, that of Victor.

“My brothers and I have decided to retire to Victor after 60 years,” Vic said in the video. “We couldn’t imagine a better way to end our career here than with the 2024 New Year’s Eve party. We are definitely going out with a bang.”

The company, 1230 N. Van Buren Streetstill plans to organize a farewell New Year’s party which will last from December 31 at 4 p.m. until the next day at noon. Victor’s popular New Year’s Eve party is famous for being a meeting place for service industry workers who have finished their shifts at other bars and restaurants.

The two-day celebration will include a champagne toast at midnight, hot and cold food buffets and free pizza at 4 a.m., according to the event page. John noted that the bar will be offering “great specials” throughout the evening and presented four unique packages ranging from $25 to $85.

The father of the brothers, Victor Jonesbuilt Victor’s current structure in 1966 and opened the tavern shortly thereafter. The elder Jones devoted almost his entire life to tavern ownership, having inherited his first operation when he was 18 years old.

He died in 2021 at the age of 91, but not before passing the torch to his children and extended family, who continue to run the business today. His youngest son, Vic, was a registered agent and principal operator for several years, according to city licensing records.

The tavern made headlines last March when it was put up for sale with an asking price of $1.9 million, according to Urban Milwaukee. previously reported. The business, furniture and fixtures were all to be included in the sale, along with the one-story building and the L-shaped one. The 0.44-acre site on which it sits.

However, the sale was never completed and the future of the property remains uncertain. The building remains on the marketnow priced at $1.7 million.

The brothers reflected fondly on the past six decades, with a special appreciation for customers and employees.

“It’s not so much about us as it is about the gratitude we have for all our customers who became friends over the years and our colleagues who were extremely wonderful, hard-working people and who cooperated with us,” said Jimmy. “So many people have met their spouses here at Victor, and you are welcome for that. I just want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year – hopefully Victor’s – but most of all, happy trails.

Victor’s, in its most recent iteration, is open Tuesday through Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. and Friday through Saturday from 4:00 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. The bar also opens some Sundays during Packers games.

The schedules for the next holidays have been slightly adapted. Victor’s will open Monday, December 23 at 6 p.m. and Sunday, December 29 at 11 a.m. for Packers games. It will remain closed on December 24 and 25.
