South Korea’s Yoon faces allegations of plotting to bring Pyongyang into martial law

Nearly a week after his failed attempt to declare martial law, South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol faces new accusations of trying to provoke Pyongyang to justify its much-hated decision.
A senior politician from South KoreaThe main opposition party claimed Monday that the country’s military may have orchestrated a drone flight near the border with bitter rival Seoul in October.

Park Beom-kye of the Democratic Party of Korea (DPK) said the incident was part of a plan by Yoon to expand his grip on power.

“It seems this was intended to create a pretext to impose martial law,” Park said, citing a military source cited by Yonhap News Agency.

Park also named Yeo In-hyung, head of the military’s anti-espionage unit and a close ally of former Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun, as a key figure in the alleged plot.

Kim and Yeo have been banned from leaving the country as authorities investigate their role in the failed coup.
