Public reaction after missing Republican congresswoman Kay Granger found in dementia care facility

Backlash has erupted online after a “missing” Republican congresswoman, Kay Granger, was found at a dementia care facility.

The explosive report revealed that the 81-year-old Texas representative, who has not voted in six months, was discovered in a memory care center after being found wandering, lost and confused in her neighborhood, according to a survey conducted by the Dallas Express.

Kay Granger, 81, who was set to end a nearly 30-year career in the House in January, reportedly lived in a $4,000-a-month nursing home for the past six months.

The news sparked fury against elderly politicians who retain power and ignited a debate over America’s aging political class, with President Joe Biden, 81, and Donald Trump, 78, facing repeated questions about their suitability mentally to carry out their functions.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, 82, has also faced scrutiny after several disturbing public episodes in which he appeared to freeze mid-sentence.

Tesla billionaire Elon Musk took to X, formerly Twitter, to demand basic cognitive testing for elected officials.

“Senator Mitch McConnell, Rep. Nancy Pelosi, and now Rep. Kay Granger are falling and losing cognitive abilities while refusing to leave office,” he wrote.

‘McConnell: He smashed his face and injured his wrist after a fall. Pelosi: Broke her hip requiring emergency surgery after falling down the stairs. Granger: Was found at an elderly care facility after people started noticing she was “missing,” according to the Dallas Express. We deserve better.

Political consultant Ryan James Girdusky said many Washington insiders have known about the news for “some time.”

“It’s very sad, but people in Washington have known about it for some time. A friend in Washington lived in the same building as Rep. Granger and said she could be found wandering the halls, asking people if ‘They knew where she lived. Dementia is absolutely terrible.

Texas Rep. Tony Gonzales commented on the news on Face The Nation, saying he was unaware Grander was in a facility.

“Unfortunately, some of these members are waiting until things have gone too far,” about aging members of Congress.

The news broke after Carlos Turcios, a journalist for the local media outlet, began researching by contacting his offices who never answered calls, going straight to voicemail.

Granger’s constituency office was also a virtual ghost town during a visit, with no sign of anyone working there.

Eventually, one of Granger’s constituents suggested to the Dallas Express that the congresswoman was living in an assisted living facility.

She reportedly lived in a retirement home specializing in memory loss after being “found wandering, lost and confused” in her neighborhood.

A visit to Tradition-Clearfork in Fort Worth allowed two employees to confirm that Granger lives there.

“This is his home,” said Taylor Manziel, assistant general manager of Tradition-Clearfork.

With a month remaining in his term and important votes still taking place daily in Washington, local officials are furious to discover his absence.

“The lack of representation for CD-12 is troubling to say the least,” said Tarrant County GOP Chairman Bo French.

“At a time when extraordinarily important votes are being taken, including on the debt ceiling, disaster relief, farm bills and border issues, Kay Granger is nowhere to be found.

“The margin in Congress is razor thin and the lack of a Republican vote representing CD-12 disenfranchises 2 million people. We deserve better.

“The fact that Kay Granger cannot leave her nursing home to participate in the most important vote of the year in Congress suggests that she was already in visible decline when she ran for office in 2022,” a said Rolando Garcia, a Republican district committeeman.

“A sad and humiliating way to end one’s political career. Sad that no one cared enough to “take the keys away” from her before she reached that moment and a sad commentary on the gerontocracy of Congress.

The congresswoman and her staff likely continue to receive their taxpayer-funded salaries.

The space she’s been living in for six months costs more than $4,000 a month in rent, according to 360 West.
