Japanese team explores investment options in medical device park

Noida: A Japanese delegation on Thursday visited the proposed medical device park being developed in close proximity to the Noida International Airport along the Yamuna Expressway to explore investment opportunities in the region, a declared the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (Yeida).

The group discussed investment ideas with Yeida officials and said it wanted to sign an agreement to develop a medical device and technology hub within the medical device park project in which at least seven units are about to start operations. Authorities are encouraging others to start businesses, officials said.

The visitors suggested promoting pharmaceutical research and innovation in association with the Uttar Pradesh Health Department. The delegation expressed their desire to share ideas to improve healthcare and medical tourism, they added.

“The Japanese team made the visit under the banner of Medical Excellence Japan (MEJ), a company that facilitates the expansion of the health and medical sector outside of Japan. It includes Japanese government officials, industrialists and medical business owners and the objective of the visit was to understand the investment potential of the park, land availability and opportunities for manufacturers,” said Shailendra Bhatia, officer on special duty in Yeida.

“The team will return to Japan to discuss with their counterparts and submit a detailed project report to establish their industries here. We could sign a memorandum of understanding in March,” he added.

The Japanese team included Kenji Shibuya, director general of Medical Excellence Japan (MEJ) and the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA); Yasuhiro Sensho, general manager of Sensho Gumi; and Sanae Sakurai, Director General of the MEJ; among others.

GN Singh, advisor to the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, along with other senior officials from Yeida, visited the site, taking the delegation on a tour. They also had a discussion at Yeida’s office and a detailed presentation of the medical device park was made. It followed a detailed presentation from Shibuya, highlighting the interest in promoting collaboration with Yeida.

After the presentations, the delegation, accompanied by officials from Yeida, visited the upcoming site of the medical device park in Sector 28. The site visit allowed the delegation to have a first-hand overview of the infrastructure and potential development of the park.

Certainly, the Yamuna authority is developing the medical device park on 350 acres. The authority allocated 71 small and three large plots, covering nearly 195 acres. Additionally, the construction of the administration building and other common facilities is nearing completion.
