Does Patagonia have Black Friday sales?

Honestly, I feel stupid writing this story. There is a fairly widespread movement, particularly among the most environmentally conscious companies, against Black Friday. I wrote stories about the trend: Does Yeti make Black FridaYeah ? Does REI do Black Friday? The trend is to offer sales before Black Friday and then encourage consumers to spend time outdoors instead of shopping after Thanksgiving. Patagonia, like Yvon Chouinard, goes even further. The company actively campaigns against Black Fridayand encourages users to purchase its Selection of clothing worn.

As someone who covers this stuff for a living, I get it. Black Friday brings out buyers’ worst tendencies. Instead of buy cool men’s clothing on Black Fridaymost consumers buy waste that ends up in a landfill. That said, I also understand the other side of the coin. This stuff is expensive and no one has disposable income these days. We need agreements.

As a compromise, before showing the rest of Patagonia’s offerings, I want to recommend just one product, this jacket. It’s a classic Patagonia cut, but instead of being made from petro-fabrics, it’s made from 100% organic cotton and hand-woven. The fabric has a good weight. The fit is cool, although I would have a tailor crop it an inch higher for a more vintage look, and it’s currently 50% off.
