The busy festive schedule tests even the strongest teams in English football. Liverpool is no different.

With that in mind, it wasn’t a big surprise to see head coach Arne Slot make a number of changes for midweek win over Southampton in the Carabao Cup.

Of course, many personnel changes carry a certain degree of risk. But after a well-deserved 2-1 victory, the Dutchman was able to gain minutes in the legs of some fringe players who could prove crucial in the coming weeks.

Even so, Slot still has to deal with some injury issues ahead of what is a huge match against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

Ibrahima Konate has been out since the win against Real Madrid due to a knee problem. Slot confirmed before Southampton that the French international defender is not yet back in full training, meaning he is unlikely to be available for Spurs.

The same is true for Conor Bradleyfor whom the match against Tottenham could come too soon. He suffered a hamstring problem against Madrid and is still recovering.

Elsewhere, Liverpool have what appears to be a relatively clean bill of health. Diogo Jota played against Southampton as a substitute despite some concerns over his fitness after the draw with Fulham.

The slot will also be boosted by the return of Andy Robertsonwho served a one-match ban against Southampton after picking up a red card against the Cottagers.

Two Liverpool players may need to tread carefully against Spurs on Sunday if they are to feature on Boxing Day. Ryan Gravenberch And Darwin Nuñez are both one card away from a suspension, as is Konate who will be sidelined anyway.
