UPPSC PCS: Only 42% candidates appear for preliminary exam | Competition

Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) Secretary Ashok Kumar said the exams were conducted peacefully under the surveillance of police and other agencies.

“The PCS Pre exam was conducted peacefully on Sunday. For the fairness of the exam, a dual-tier system was put in place in which the police and the agency conducted separate investigations,” he said. he told PTI.

He said all exams were conducted under CCTV surveillance and broadcast live and candidates’ iris and other biometric data were examined to filter proxies.

“Each candidate from each center was monitored from the control room installed in the commission. This monitoring was done through CCTV cameras installed in 1,331 centers across the state. Whenever a candidate was seen wandering, we would immediately alert the concerned center what the candidate in question was doing,” Kumar said.

The only incident of cheating was discovered in Etah, Jawaharlal Nehru PG College, where a candidate came wearing earphones, he said. The person was arrested by the police.

A total of 5,76,154 candidates applied for the exam, out of which only 2,41,212 (around 42%) appeared for the exam, officials said.

On November 15, the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) announced that the Provincial Civil Services (PCS) Preliminary Examination 2024 would be held on December 22 in two teams.

The move sparked protests from students, who demanded that both exams be held on the same day.

The protests continued for five days and were halted when the board announced that it would hold the exams in a single day.
