Vacant hotel rooms transformed into “vital lifes” for caregivers

Ms. Warner, who lives with her family in New Haw in Surrey, described Arlo as “a cuddly and loving little boy”, but said that life as a full -time caregiver is difficult.

“Being a parent of a child with special needs is much more than being a parent.

“You are their observer 24 hours a day. You cannot leave them alone.

“It is not only the benevolent aspect which is 24/7.

“It is constant concern. You can’t get away from it … and I think you are physically tired.

“You are drained at the end of the day – there are so many things you need to do. There are so many things you are going through.”

The carefree charity checks the caregivers who need a respite and connects them with available hotels.

As Christmas approaches last year, Gabrielle and Charlie stayed at the Nobu hotel in Shoreditch.

“For the first time for a very long time, we were able to leave the hotel and walk and just watch the stores – just to walk around and hold out and get a meal and chat. It was so charming – it was so pleasant.”
