The “precious” pig raised by a girl during cancer increases $ 35,000 at the Limestone County Fair

Groesbeck, Texas (Kwtx) – A nine -year -old girl fighting leukemia obtained a huge demonstration of support from her community after her pork that she raised throughout her battle against cancer sold at the County Limetone Fair for nearly $ 10,000, which prompted those present to give additional $ 25,000 in terms of additional modules.

Brittyn Dodd, 9, of Groesbeck, says that the pig she named Precious was her motivation to get out of bed and fight cancer since her diagnosis.

“Her doctor told her that she needed a long -term goal. The fair has become her long -term goal,” Brittyn’s mom said Brooke.

“She said:” I want to be able to show a pig in my county fair “, and the doctor said:” Absolutely! We are going to take you there. We will make sure you can show this pig in the county fair. “”

Brittyn received a diagnosis of acute cell cell leukemia in June. Her mother says she had no warning panel other than being unusually tired.

After having experienced a crisis, Brittyn was transported by plane to Fort Worth where she was diagnosed with cancer after a bone marrow test.

The fourth leveling started chemotherapy the same evening. “She was nine years old on June 10 and was diagnosed on the 14th and started chemo that day,” said Brooke.

Brooke said Brittyn chemotherapy was extremely intense for 30 days. It was considered in remission after this period but remains on oral chemotherapy at home.

Brooke says Brittyn focused on the elevation of her pork to keep her motivated during her cancer career.

“She would go into the barn and worked her pig at any time,” said Brooke. “When she felt good, she was there walking and feeding on herself. No matter that it was 21 degrees. She was looking forward to going out in this barn and seeing precious.”

Her hard work paid off last weekend when the girl, who has still not been able to return to school, was able to return to the ring.

To her surprise, she was not alone.

The children 4-H and FFA of Groesbeck surrounded Brittyn in the ring as she sold her pig.

The pig sold Mike Terry, owner of Mike Terry Chevrolet and Mike Terry Ford in Mexia, for $ 9,950. It was the maximum amount because no pork could sell more than the price of the big champion.

But, even with the pig crowned during the sale, the children continued to applaud and the individuals and the companies continued to add the amount.

In the end, Brittyn left with $ 33,450, which her mother says that the family will use for medical invoices as well as to donate to the Ronald McDonald house to Fort Worth where the family remained throughout the treatment.

“It made me feel so loved,” Brittyn told Kwtx.

“What was done for us was an absolute blessing and we cannot thank our community, our friends and our family enough,” added Brooke. “Our board of directors of the County Limetone Association, they are all volunteers and they have done incredible work this year with our county fair.”

Brittyn cancer is now in remission, and hopes to ring the bell in August 2026 when it ends the treatment.

Her mother says she hopes to go back to school at the Enge-Washington Intermediate School in Groesbeck for the first time this school year next week.

“Brittyn is the most courageous child I know. She has faced everything with everything and has had a smile on her face from the start,” said Brooke.

The talented young person also returned home obtained a large champion in the bread competition and was appointed 2nd finalist in the junior competition of Miss Limetone County County Fair Pageant.
