New Mexico legislators present a commercial port proposal

About 50,000 tonnes of goods travel along the section of the New Mexico of the I-40 each year, and even more trips in freight trains.

Santa Fe, NM-About 50,000 tonnes of goods travel along the section of the New Mexico of the I-40 each year, and even more trips in goods trains.

New Mexico state legislators know that there are economic opportunities hide in all this traffic.

“Economic development concerns location, location, location. And when you think about where new-mexic is located in the country, when you look at the I-40, I-10, BNSF and Rail Union Pacific, we are in the center, “said the representative of the Patty Lunstrom state.

But Lunstrom knows how to capitalize on these commercial roads will require new infrastructures in the form of commercial ports.

“It is an industrial park on steroids, but it is essentially, it is an industrial park which offers a short -haired emphasis on trade and distribution,” said Lunstrom.

The objective is to provide new facilities to companies to store and distribute goods throughout the country without relying on the limited warehouse space in major port cities.

“We have seen changes at national level in terms of trade, and we want to be ready. We want the new-mexic to be ready for this, “said Lunstrom.

Lunstrom’s bill would encourage public-private partnerships for this new infrastructure to be built.

The county of Bernalillo is already working on a sport project for the Albuquerque region, and Lunstrom says that there are already conversations on the construction ports of construction near Gallup and Las Cruces – a few kilometers from the port of ‘Entrance of Santa Teresa.

“Santa Teresa is seated in the middle between the port of Houston and the port of Long Beach. Think of this location, location, location. We have it here in the state. This is a great opportunity to develop this infrastructure, “said Maison Javier Martinez’s president.

Bill 19 Already authorized its first committee of the Chamber, but because it is a bill linked to the tax, the legislative leaders say that the plan is to transform it into a massive tax package – something that we have already seen – to be approved later in the session.

Follow HB 19 during the legislative session.
