Zhang and Kabayel were recently ordered to face Martin Bakole in a IBF final eliminator.

But now they should compete for the green and gold trinket.

Had they gone the IBF route and beaten Bakole, either man would be in contention for an immediate mandatory shot against the IBF world champion – currently Daniel Dubois.

However, they won’t be afforded the same luxury by the WBC, which insists it won’t immediately impose an obligation for the winner of Usyk vs Fury II.

“The WBC has received a formal request to sanction such an interim title fight and the WBC will agree to sanction it,” said WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman. Aerial sports.

“Why? Because we have done everything possible over the last few years to achieve the ultimate, big fights in every weight class, especially at heavyweight.

“Throughout this time, we have been crystal clear and transparent that the WBC would not impose any obligations that would go against the ultimate undisputed champion, as they fight the best available.

“There is no better fight than Usyk-Fury. So with those fights, and then the possibilities for the future, we accepted No. 2 and No. 3 to fight for the interim title.

“Keep them active and make sure the division has the best fights possible.”

Usyk beat Fury in May to become the first undisputed heavyweight champion of the four-belt era.

But the Ukrainian was forced to relinquish the IBF belt due to his contracted rematch with Fury, which prevented him from fighting with the principal sanctioning body’s proxy, Dubois.

As a result, Dubois moved from interim world champion to full world champion and first defended his title in September by knocking out Antoine Joshua.

“For the winner on December 21, there are many options,” Sulaiman added.

“Why should anyone stand in the way of a third fight, or a new undisputed fight (against Dubois) or any high profile event when we can host the champion, (and have a) interim title fight where the winner is going to be a sensational high-level possibility?

“So we are all in favor of undisputed champions.”

Zhang and Kabayel have been in excellent form lately.
