Jazz’s Jordan Clarkson ejected for skirmish with Pistons’ Ron Holland

It was a simply eventful evening at Little Caesars Arena on Thursday.

Among a list of viral moments during the Utah Jazzthe match against Detroit PistonsJordan Clarkson might have won the award for most lopsided game of the night for his role in a near-fight with rookie Ron Holland.

During the final two minutes of the third quarter, Clarkson was pushed around by Pistons big man Paul Reed after a layup under the basket, when the Jazz guard responded by pushing Reed away. Then, Holland came to his veteran’s defense.

Holland pushed Clarkson and punched his face, which was met seconds later, with the two quickly engaging in a fight.

Collin Sexton and Marcus Sasser arrived on the scene to prevent Holland and Clarkson from making any further moves, and both subsequently saw their second-half ejections within minutes.

Surprisingly, this wasn’t the first time we’ve seen Clarkson go to battle against an opposing player mid-game in a Utah uniform. In 2022, the Jazz guard found himself in a similar situation with Warriors of the Golden State” Jonathan Kuminga, and in 2023 the same thing happened with Memphis Grizzlies the great Jaren Jackson Jr.

At this point, it might just be an annual phenomenon for Jordan Clarkson to almost fight someone in the middle of the season.

This game against Detroit was Clarkson’s second since returning from his long-term foot injury. He finished with three points, five rebounds and an assist. In his 15 appearances with the Jazz this season, the former Sixth Man of the Year is averaging 15.9 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.7 assists.

It remains to be seen whether Clarkson will receive additional punishment from the league for his role in the skirmish. If so, the decision would likely come before the Jazz’s upcoming road battle Saturday against the Brooklyn fillets.
