The Philadelphia Phillies continue to fail in the playoffs, and a new report suggests changes could be coming. It could even involve a big, unexpected splash in free agency.

The Phillies could pursue free agent third baseman Alex Bregman or shortstop Willy Adames to add another weapon to their lineup, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today. Either decision would likely depend on whether third baseman Alec Bohm could be moved in a trade.

One of the Phillies’ goals is to get a little younger without sacrificing talent, and this would be one way to do that. Adames is a year older than Bohm and Bregman is more than two years older, but both present themselves as better players who could remain stars for years to come. Bohm, meanwhile, struggled in the second half of the season, and the Phillies may have doubts about his progress.

One thing that is clear is that the Phillies appear motivated to make changes after their disappointing playoff exit to the New York Mets. This could involve some fairly well-known names leaving the teamboth for insufficient performance and for financial reasons.

If the Phillies want Bregman, it’s already clear they will face significant competition for his services. The same We could say of Adames Also.
