Banks across India will be closed for several days in December 2024 due to regional and national holidays. These closures vary by state, and the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) provides a full list of these dates on its website.

Throughout the month of December, banks will observe public holidays for various occasions including the Feast of Saint Francis Xavier, Pa-Togan Nengminja Sangma, Death Anniversary of U SoSo Tham, Goa Liberation Day , Christmas Eve, Christmas, Christmas celebrations, U Kiang Nangbah, and New Year’s Eve/Lossong/Namsoong. The precise dates of these holidays may differ depending on the region.

Further, as per RBI guidelines, all scheduled and non-scheduled banks will remain closed on the second and fourth Saturday of the month in observance of public holidays. Customers are encouraged to visit the official RBI website for further details on public holiday timings.

Public holidays in December 2024:

  • December 3: Banks will be closed in Goa for the feast of Saint Francis Xavier, an important religious celebration in the state.
  • December 12: Banks will be closed in Meghalaya to celebrate Pa-Togan Nengminja Sangma, a regional festival celebrated in the state.
  • December 18: Banks will remain closed in Meghalaya on the death anniversary of U SoSo Tham, in honor of the eminent figure in the state’s history.
  • December 19: Banks in Goa will be closed for Goa Liberation Day, a national holiday commemorating the end of Portuguese rule in the region.
  • December 24: Banks will be closed in Mizoram, Nagaland and Meghalaya on Christmas Eve, Christmas Eve.
  • December 25: Banks will be closed across the country for Christmas, celebrating India’s religious and cultural holiday.
  • December 26: In Mizoram, Nagaland and Meghalaya, banks will remain closed for Christmas celebrations, continuing the festive season.
  • December 27: Banks will be closed in Nagaland for Christmas celebrations, which continues the Christmas festivities.
  • December 30: Banks in Meghalaya will be closed for U Kiang Nangbah, a national holiday honoring a local hero.
  • December 31: Banks will be closed in Mizoram and Sikkim for New Year’s Eve, or Lossong/Namsoong, which marks the celebration of the coming new year.
