Neighbor remembers Jefferson City house explosion | Mid-Missouri News

JEFFERSON CITY — A Jefferson City woman said she was relieved to learn everyone was alive after a house next to hers exploded over the weekend.

“I looked and it was a quarter to 3, and it all started.” L’Wana Hagner said. “I heard this loud, horrible boom.”

Six people injured in house explosion in the 2400 block of St. Louis Road around 2:44 a.m. Saturday, according to a city news release.

The cause of the explosion is unknown and the investigation continues without delay.

EMS provided intensive care to the six people, who were inside the home at the time of the explosion and suffered moderate to serious injuries, according to the city.

Hagner said she had known the owners of the house for a long time, and she said that rather than lamenting some of the collectibles she lost in the explosion, she was just relieved that no one died on the land.

“At least he’s alive,” Hagner said. “And that’s the most important thing.”

Two victims were transported to the Jefferson City Airport and flown to Columbia University Hospital. The other four victims were transported by ground to University Hospital.

Hagner said the explosion blew out some of his upstairs and downstairs windows. She said her son arrived in the middle of the night and started trying to fix the windows.

“I immediately loaded up some equipment he had at home so I could close the windows,” she said.

Hagner became emotional while talking about her son, who was at her house Monday working on the windows.

“My son is my angel,” she said. “He takes care of me like you wouldn’t believe.”

KOMU 8 reached out to the Jefferson City Police Department and the Jefferson City Fire Department, and neither would comment on the condition of the six people taken to the hospital.

Jefferson City Animal Control removed two dogs from the explosion and confirmed that neither suffered any injuries and both are expected to be OK.
